The Sweet Taste Of Victory

Night number 12 on the 2019 Malvern Bank SLMR tour directed the Series’ attention to the Shelby County Speedway. 25 cars would be in attendance for yet another $2,000 to-win event and hot night of racing.

Brian Kosiski posted quick time to get the night rolling, while Corey Zeitner, Ben Schaller, and Jason Wallace won their respective heat races. The one and only B-Feature was won by Newton, Iowa’s Curt Schroeder.

Brian Kosiski and Josh Leonard set the pace for the 25-lap main event. Leonard shot out to the early lead while the field scrambled for positions behind him. Nick Deal worked his way up from the 8^th starting spot to 4^th within the open few laps. The first of two yellow flags would wave on circuit number 4. Brian Kosiski lost the 2^nd spot to Kyle Berck on the restart, as Berck went by this opened the door for the 55D of Nick Deal. Deal would eventually move by the 52 of Kosiski on lap 7 moving into the third spot behind Leonard and Berck. As the leaders began to work lap traffic Berck and Deal both began gaining ground on leader Josh Leonard. The second yellow waved on lap 18 after Matt Snoberger had hit the wall in turn 1 and came to a stop. This would bunch the field up setting up a 7-lap dash to the checkered.

Leonard powered his way back out to the lead. Meanwhile, Nick Deal drove past Kyle Berck on the restart, Deal then set his sights on leader Josh Leonard. Brian Kosiski faded on the restart dropping 3 spots surrendering 4^th, 5^th, and 6^th to Jason O’Brien, Justin Zeitner, and Tad Pospisil. Deal gained a little ground on Leonard in the closing laps but it was too little too late. In the end it was the number 1 machine of Josh Leonard finishing P1 and scoring his first career Malvern Bank SLMR Series victory. Walnut, Iowa’s Nick Deal brought it home second, third was defending Series champ Kyle Berck, 4^th was Jason O’Brien, and rounding out the top 5 was Justin Zeitner.
