Deal Domination
Night number 2 of the season and the first points night for the series got off to a late start after Mother Nature tried to complicate things with a rain shower around 5 o’clock. The Kosiski Family and the track crew were able to get the track rolled in and ready for racing action.
34 cars checked in for the $4,000 to-win show. With qualifying done the night before the night got underway with 4 heat races, Jeremy Grady, Scott Ward, Ben Schaller, and Kyle Berck would pick up the wins in their heats. Brad Perdue and Cory Dumpert would be victorious in the B-Features.
The 25-lap A main event was brought to green by Corey Zeitner and Bill Leighton Jr. Corey Zeitner jumped out to the early lead while the battle for the 2nd position heated up between Josh Leonard, Bill Leighton Jr, Tad Pospisil, and Nick Deal. Deal would quickly work his way past the other three and move from his 5th place starting spot to 2nd within the first 5 laps of the race. He then set his sights on race leader Corey Zeitner. While Deal began to slowly reel in Zeitner for the lead, Brian Kosiski would move past Tad Pospisil for the 5th spot. On lap 9, Nick Deal was finally able to clear Zeitner after swapping the top spot a few times. Once cleared Deal began to check out.
Meanwhile, Tad Pospisil, 2017 Series Champion, who started third began to fade dropping 6th to Andrew Kosiski on lap 9, 7th and 8th to Scott Ward and Dylan Smith on lap 10. Corey Zeitner would lose grasp of second place as the leaders began to work lap traffic, Zeitner losing 2nd and 3rd to Josh Leonard and Bill Leighton Jr, Zeitner would soon lose 4th to Brian Kosiski on lap 16 and 5th to Andrew Kosiski on lap 18. In the late stages of the race while Deal was checked out Leighton surrendered the 2nd and 3rd spots to Josh Leonard and Brian Kosiski after getting caught in lap traffic.
As the checkered flag waved it was Walnut, Iowa’s Nick Deal picking up his first career Malvern Bank SLMR Series victory winning by over a straightaway. Deal was followed to the line by Josh Leonard, Brian Kosiski, Bill Leighton, and Andrew Kosiski who rounded out the top 5.
