Weekend Sweep Complete
20 cars rolled into the Junction Motor Speedway for night number 15 on the 2019 MBSLMR campaign. This was the Series’ second of three scheduled races at the Junction Motor Speedway.
Kyle Berck led the way early in the night in time trials after throwing a lap time of 16.292 up atop the scoreboard. Andrew Kosiski followed in the second spot, Josh Leonard third, Tad Pospisil fourth, and Jason O’Brien fifth. The heat races were won by JC Wyman, Ben Schaller, and Josh Leonard; Corey Zeitner’s night would come to an early end after a roll over on the opening lap of his heat race.
Andrew Kosiski and Robbie Andersen brought the field to the green flag for the $2,000 to-win, 25-lap main event. Kosiski led the field into turn 1 but Andersen battled back on the outside and led the opening circuit before Kosiski finally cleared Andersen for the lead on lap 2. Kosiski opened the door for Josh Leonard and Leonard shot to the second spot past Andersen. Kosiski and Leonard continued to show the way and stretch out a lead on the field, Leonard slowly closing in on Kosiski. Meanwhile, Bill Leighton Jr and Kyle Berck fought for the 4th spot. The first of four yellow flags would be thrown on lap four after Matt Snoberger made contact with third place Robbie Andersen forcing both to spin in turn 3, Bill Leighton was also collected in the wreck.
AK led the field back to the green flag, Kyle Berck jumped past Josh Leonard to move into the second spot. A little farther back in the field Ben Schaller, JC Wyman, and Justin Zeitner exchanged sliders and a little bit of paint battling hard for the fifth spot. Kosiski continued to lead as the race neared the half-way marker but Josh Leonard had closed in on Kyle Berck and began trying to regain the second spot. The second yellow waved on lap 11 for Zach Zeitner who had come to a stop in turn 4 after being hit in the helmet by a piece of debris. Zeitner would be ok and continue racing when the race resumed.
Kosiski, Berck, and Leonard brought the field back to green one more time. This time Berck utilized a strong restart to rocket by the 53 of Kosiski and into the lead. Leonard followed Berck by Kosiski as did Tad Pospisil. While Leonard and Pospisil worked their way past Kosiski on the restart pushing Kosiski back to fourth Kyle Berck checked out hunting for his 4th win of the season. Another yellow flag waved on lap 17 as Justin Zeitner came to a stop in turn 4 with a right rear flat.
Berck resumed the race and jumped out to a sizeable lead but the field was quickly slowed again after Tad Pospisil broke the crank trigger on his 04-machine bringing him to a stop on the backstretch. This would set up a 6-lap shootout for the $2,000 pay day.
Berck led the field back to green one final time and checked out. With four to go, fellow MB Custom Chassis drivers Andrew Kosiski and Ben Schaller made contact which sent the 53 of Kosiski spinning to the infield. The green flag continued to be shown as the laps would wind down. As the laps ran out it was Kyle Berck completing the weekend sweep and nabbing his fourth win of the season and 87th in his MBSLMR Series career. Josh Leonard finished in second, Ben Schaller in third, Bill Leighton rebounded being in the lap 8 crash to finish fourth, and Jason O’Brien came from the tail of the field to finish 5th.
