Berck wins Prelude to SDN, Leighton wins at Park Jeff
“The Marquette Missile” Kyle Berck picked up his first SLMR win of the year in the Cornhusker State by leading all 25 laps of the $2,000 to win Malvernbank SLMR feature at the Prelude to the Silver Dollar Nationals held at I-80 Speedway on Thursday, July 21. Berck started on the outside front row and charged by Polesitter Matt Buller to take the lead which he held for the rest of the event.
It was not only Berck’s fourth win of the season but also put him in the lead in Malvernbank SLMR point standings. Jesse Sobbing of Malvern, Iowa making a rare SLMR appearance finished second, Tad Pospisil third, Arizona’s R.C. Whitwell fourth (from 13th) and Bill Leighton, Jr. fifth.

The series moved to the Park Jefferson Speedway on Saturday, August 6 where Bill Leighton, Jr. won a wild shootout with Kyle Berck to pick up the $2,000 for winning thanks to Zeitner & Sons’ Trucking. It was Leighton’s fourth series win of the season. Leighton charged from his fourth starting position to the lead with a strong shot of turn two on the opening lap. The race went green until lap 13 when Steve McConnell spun.
On the restart Berck started his challenge of Leighton Jr.,and the two basically battled it out the rest of the way swapping the lead back in fourth. Two late cautions slowed the race but Leighton, Jr. was able to hold off all of Berck’s challenges to pick up the win. Nick Beyenhof was the mover of the racing starting 15th and finishing third. The top five were; Leighton, Jr., Berck, Nick Beyenhof, Corey Zeitner and Leon Zeitner. 31 cars were on hand.

Following the races at Park Jefferson, Bill Leighton, Jr. and Kyle Berck are tied for the points lead with 1,038 points, Ben Schaller is third with 972 points, Corey Zeitner is fourth with 928 points with Andrew Kosiski and Brian Kosiski tied for fifth with 868 points. The Malvernbank.com SLMR Series returns to action on Saturday, August 20 at the Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa with extra money on line as the feature will once again pay $2,000 to win.
